There are times when just the sight of Santa décor can bring a smile to a child’s face, and even some adults. There is just something about them that invokes memories of childhood, and that might just be one of the reasons that they are so popular as collector’s items today.
Everyone has heard the tale of Virginia O’Hanlon, the girl who wrote a letter to the New York Sun in 1897, asking the immortal question about Santa Claus being real. Since then, there has been an item of Santa décor gracing every home and store, in a lot of styles, incarnations, and promotional gimmicks.
For collectors, there are fine porcelain figures, clay statues, moving ornaments, and modern collectibles that carry on the job of honoring St. Nick. The most popular by far is the series of Coca-Cola items that is fast approaching a record thirty years in first place.
